VITA at UNC Charlotte

Have your Taxes Prepared

Members of the UNC Charlotte community who make $67,000 or less are invited to have their taxes prepared for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program (refer to the link for in-scope services VITA provides) at UNC Charlotte. Appointments are first come, first served. (We do not offer walk-in services)

 

Are you a UNC Charlotte community member who is considered an international student on an F, J, M, or Q Visa or a Teacher or trainee on a J Visa? 

International Students and Scholars, ONLY*

We have an exciting opportunity to host an International Student Tax Party on the main campus, where you will receive guided support for your free tax preparation. Deadline to signup: March 19th @ noon 

Two opportunities exist: 

  • March 21st, starting at 9 am

  • March 21st, starting at 1 pm

 Sign up to have taxes prepared on the following dates:

  US Citizens and Residents, ONLY** : 

  • March 11, 2025, 3 pm - 6 pm

  • March 14, 2025, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

  • March 18, 2025, 3 pm - 6 pm

  • March 28, 2025, 930am - 1230pm

  • April 4, 2025, 930am - 1230pm

To participate, you need to bring the following ***:

  • Proof of identification (see link for valid photo ID examples) (Physical item required)
  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and dependents  *if you are married, both taxpayers must be present. (Physical item required)
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse, and dependents on the tax return
  • Wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R,1099-Misc) from all employers
    • Students should ensure they have their 1098-T as well
    • Students should also discuss with their parents whether they will claim them on their tax return.  Students can still have their taxes prepared if they will be claimed on their parents return, however, this is very important.
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
  • Forms 1095-A, B, and C, Health Coverage Statements (or Health Insurance Exemption Certificate)
  • A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
  • Proof of bank account routing and account numbers for direct deposit, such as a blank check
  • To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms
  • Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number such as their Social Security number or business Employer Identification Number
